Friday, March 31, 2017 was a “Great Friday” at Brown’s Ferry. More than 15 professionals representing a variety of career fields spoke with students about their career choices during the Annual Brown’s Ferry Elementary School Career Day. Students from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade had the opportunity to learn about several careers.

Guests from the community included representatives from the following organizations:
Georgetown County Fire/EMS
St. Francis Animal Center
Georgetown County Sheriff Department
Georgetown Kraft Credit Union (GKCU)
Santee Cooper- Sherri Linen, Tyrone Cobb, Lashon Linen
Morant and Morant Law Firm
Brown's Ferry Water Co.- Keith Moore
Department of Juvenile Justice
Dr. Crystal Franklin- Vision Works
Chef Jacque Davis
Engineer – Shana Collins

While each presenter offered a different career path, each presenter shared a common theme: Be respectful, be responsible, and be productive.  They added that while the students are young, it is not too early to start making good choices!

The event benefitted both guest speakers and students alike; as many professionals left feeling as though they made a significant impact on the elementary students. To add to that, several of the presenters were either Brown’s Ferry Alumni or community members. The students were excited to hear from each professional. Many students asked questions to learn more about specific careers.

It is the hope that this event sparked something in the students and helped them believe in their own ability to achieve great things.
